Abstract

In order to identify Human Papillomavirus (HPV) DNA and its subtypes on the formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues, 38 cases of invasive carcinoma of the uterine cervix were studied by modified Polmerase Chain Reaction (PCR)-In Situ
Hybridization
technique. The author used highly sensitive DIG labeled HPV universal primer proven as selective amplifier of high-risk HPV DNA, & DIG labeled HPV 16, 18, 33 primers, HPV DNA was detected in 28 of 30 cases of squamous cell carcinoma (93.3%), and
all of
3 adenosquamous carcinoma and 5 adenocarcinoma cases showed positive reaction. HPV 16 and 18 subtypes are well-known oncogenic agents in the uterine cervix, and 61.1% of positivity for HPV 16 and 18 were noted in cervical cancer cases.
@ES This study demonstrated that:
@EN 1) Screening of high-risk HPV infection using universal primer is very useful tool in the uterine ecrvical tissues.
